Are essential oils a quack?

So  I watched one episode of "thetruthaboutcancer" and the lady there says that she cured her astrocytoma with boswelia essential oil taking drop of it every 2 hours. Is this a quack? It says on wikipedia that those oils can be toxic.

  1. If this is true, then it would be a very remarkable case, and should be published with all relevant medical details included. How far is she from diagnosis? What grade was it? How long ago did she finish conventional treatments (if any)? Were any of those details given? If not, then it's impossible to fairly evaluate a claim like that.

  2. IN the episode she was many years away after the original surgery. During the surgery they removed half of her tumor and the other half she said faded away as she was using the oil. The episode is free to watch. They might have given more details but I forgot. I am searching for all those quack cures because some of them might really work. I had a fungal toenails infection and went to 10 dermatologists and all they said that they will put me on antifungal medication which might not work at all which has horribe side effects like liver damage etc. other wise there is no cure for it. After 10 years of ichy toes I cured all of it myself with vinegar in a matter of a few weeks. None of the doctors told me about it vinegar before......I had a few other issues when I spend tons of money on doctors and drugs got bad side effects and then I again read some internet quack cures and cured it again. So quacks are worth looking into.

    1. I would call them "folk remedies". Quackery implies there is some deception involved. Maybe I'll have a look at this episode if it's free.

  3. I bought the whole series ($300) since I believe they are only free online for a short time. I haven't spent any time watching it yet, or reading many of the books I've amassed, mainly because Dad's care is a full time thing + my two toddlers and day job :-) If anyone is interested and wants to spend the time watching and summarize for us GBM folks, I am willing to share my login details. send me an email: anniescates@gmail.com

If I ever get to it I will share anything pertinent to GBM.
