Boswellia capsules

Reposted for Dominique

Is there any boswellia serrata tablet that can be crushed? Or a capsule that can be opened up so its contents dissolve in water? I've only come across soft gel capsules which can't be broken up. I can't find any syrup either.

  1. I'm not sure, I don't have a lot of experience with Boswellia, but perhaps others here can help.

Do the Wokvel capsules come as openable capsules allowing an extraction of their contents? Somebody here must be using these.

Sorry if this is one of the brands you've already tried.

    1. That's exactly what we use and it's super easy to open and take out; but I caution that it tastes awful.

In some sense, we're having the opposite issue as these capsules have a tendency to leak in the bottle so our bottles always have capsules that are dusted with the boswellia.

    2. There you go Dominique. The Wokvel boswellia capsules by Progena can be opened and the powder dumped out. Perhaps some stevia or other sweetener could be added when drinking to mask the flavor.

    3. Stephen can anti epileptics be crushed and added to applesauce? Would that change the composition?

    4. I doubt there's anything in apple sauce it would react with chemically, but some meds are recommended to take either with or without food, because of how food can affect their absorption. Which specific anti-epileptic drug are you asking about?

    6. "Keppra is given orally with or without food"
"VIMPAT (lacosamide) may be taken with or without food"

from the official product monographs. I think you're safe :)

    1. It seems like there are a lot of boswellia powders in Amazon India - although not, unfortunately, the wokvel version:

    2. Yes but there isn't much quality control in India so we have been ordering it from the US so far. My mum has developed contractures in both hands so we have to crush all her medication. The boswellia we were ordering are soft gel capsules which can't be opened.

  4. If I understand correctly, can Boswellia have a bad effect on platelets?

    2017 https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/28403501
"Taken together, the 11-oxo moiety and the 3-O-acetyl group confer AKBA the ability to act as an antagonist of select stimulusinduced Ca2+ mobilization and platelet aggregation. The role and impact of the 11-oxo group for disparate platelet modulation is reflected by the opposing effects of AKBA and Aβ-BA that differ only by the presence or absence of this particular moiety. Finally, despite the potentially beneficial effect of AKBA as a suppressor of platelet activation in vitro, one might speculate that rather detrimental (i.e., platelet activating) effects would be attained upon administration of B. serrata extracts to human subjects. Thus, our data suggest that caution should be taken in particular for patients with high risk cardiovascular events taking such extracts as anti-inflammatory medicine."
