Inspired by Ben Williams who used Verapamil on BCNU and later on PCV regiment I was planning to use P-glycoprotein (P-gp) inhibitor like Verapamil during PCV chemotherapy.
Problem is that I can't find any research characterizing alkylating agents such as Carmustine, Procarbazine or Lomustine as P-gp substrates. Am I missing something?

Within the PCV protocol, Ben was specifically combining verapamil with CCNU (rather than vincristine or procarbazine). If I recall correctly he took verapamil 3 days before, on the day of, and 3 days after the CCNU day (for a total of 7 days per cycle).
ReplyDeleteI would consider combining verapamil with BCNU or CCNU on the basis of figure 3 of this study alone, regardless of information on P-gp.

Wow, I missed that. Thank you Stephen! I'm gonna try to do more thorough research next time before asking. I feel bad for taking your time, especially when others need it more than I currently do.
DeleteDon't worry, it's kind of an obscure study, but I think its one that helped convince Ben to use verapamil back in 95.
