Gamma Tile Radiation

Stephen, has Gamma Tiles been discussed on site here for recurrent GBM?   This is an awesome, very informative video.  What are your thoughts?
Thanks,
Candy

  1. Hi Candy,
No this is a new topic for the blog. I'm regrettably uninformed about it and will try to watch the video soon. Thanks for posting!

  2. I don't think I mentioned. Click at bottom right "uncover video". Then start at the 8 minute mark as it doesn't connect til then. I'll be interested in your thoughts Stephen when you get time.
    Thanks,
    Candy

  3. I'm watching the video now. Some of this info is also on the webpage.

It was very interesting that median local control with Gamma tile was 12 months, whereas the prior therapies for these same patients only gave local tumor control for a median of 9.5 months, so the Gamma tiles were apparently an improvement on prior therapies, though the difference wasn't huge. It seems to be even more effective for meningioma.

I like the fact that he said there's no need to prove superiority over other therapies like Optune, because it's easy to combine them - have a surgery and place the Gamma tiles, then a few weeks later start Optune.

Another great thing is that it's already FDA approved, so could be legally done anywhere in the US, though not sure how many centers have adopted it yet. He mentions several locations in the Q&A at minute 44-45. He also said around 45 centers are in the process of getting internal approval to start using it.

He says they are trying to get the FDA to take off the word "recurrent" from the label so it could be officially used for newly diagnosed cases as well, with a timeline of August - September 2019 for that change to the label.

Thanks to Al for posting this and Candy for mentioning it here!

  4. Hey fellow fighters! My husband is heading back in for his 3rd resection. I just found out that GammaTile is being offered close to home. Has anyone in this amazing community had the GammaTile treatment? If so, did you experience inflamation or other side effects? Are you glad you did it? It looks like a really great option for my husband at this time. He's feeling pretty depleted from CCNU and the ADI clinical trial, along with steroids since last November when he participated in the MDNA55 trial. His body needs a break from chemo. Hoping he can recover and we get more time on our side to win this. Thanks for any insight here. Sandi
