Nausea and loss of appetite

Hi everyone
Two weeks ago my 62 year old mom completed her 6 week radiation and TMZ for her gbm right frontal lobe.
She was fine during the treatment however as soon as her treatments completed she has been experiencing nausea and loss of appetite which appears to be getting worse.  She was taking a whole host of supplements but has stopped them because of this.  She is however still taking chloroquine and metformin.
Do we assume this is a result of the TMZ?  It's just odd because why is it hitting her now?  If anyone has any insight I would appreciate the info!

  1. Jessica,

My fiancee completed her 6 weeks of radiation and TMZ at the end of January of this year. She was 26 at the time and also has GBM in the right frontal lobe.

Toward the end of radiation, namely, starting at about the end of week 4, she started experiencing bad nausea and didn't want to eat much at all. Unfortunately, this persisted for maybe a full month after radiation had completed.

When we were tinkering with the cocktail, we found that eliminating fish oil and cimetidine resolved the persistent nausea. The appetite had to build back because she simply hadn't been able to eat much due to the nausea.

Whether it was simply the passage of time or the removal of those 2 components or the combination of both, I'm not completely sure. It took a good while to really nail down our cocktail, and I learned more and more that some people are just less tolerant of some things than other people are.

Our NO also made it very clear that she could take a Zofran every 8 hours if she had persistent nausea. Good luck, and keep us posted as to what helps and what doesn't.

  2. After being on Temodar for several months, the thing that helped my nausea and appetite better than anything was anything with jalapeƱos.

  3. For nausea, 8mg ondasetrone half an hour before my 400mg TMZ dose does a good job. Appetite? Never had trouble with that :)
