Does anyone know anything about Berubicin?

  1. It's an anthracycline, so related to the common chemotherapy agents doxorubicin, daunorubicin, idarubicin, widely used in solid tumors and leukemias. However, unlike those drugs, berubicin apparently does cross the BBB.

One of the more interesting facts about anthracyclines like doxorubicin and idarubicin, is that they're inducers of "immunogenic cell death" and could increase the recognition of the tumor by immune cells, but until now anthracyclines haven't been used for GBM due to poor BBB penetration, except in trials with special delivery methods such as:

  2. Seems a little odd. The abstract on the phase 1 trial is not nearly as impressive as the press release sounds. Details are fuzzy, but lists 36 patients with recurrent combos of GBM, AA and 'other primary brain cancers', out of which there were 'several partial responses and 1 complete response'. The phase 1 was also from 10 yrs ago and it is now being done as a 'crowd sourcing' setup to get money to proceed. But hopefully it does actually hold some promise.

  3. I find this very odd. It is all over the internet, I believe thanks to CURE magazine covering it in recent days. I agree with bs1966 above. The Phase 1 was almost 10 years ago. If you go to the link and the blog, MANY people are asking these questions. I HAVE NOT seen anything from MD Anderson talking about it, however Berubicin, was created at the MD Anderson Cancer Center by Dr. Waldemar Priebe. AND Dr. Priebe is also the founder of CNS Pharmaceuticals. This seems sketchy to me. I think I may ask MD Anderson WHAT is up with this. If this awesome breakthrough was happening, wouldn't you think we would hear about this from the NBTA or MD Anderson themselves!? I will let everyone know what I find out. Asking for crowd sourcing from brain cancer patients..something does not feel right.

  4. I looked into PubMed for Berubicin, and did not find any results.

    1. There are conference abstracts published online, which oddly don't show up in pubmed searches. Another name for the drug is "RTA 744"

      http://cancerres.aacrjournals.org/content/67/9_Supplement/935

There are 4 clinical trials for RTA 744 listed at clinicaltrials.gov. Three were terminated, and the only one that was completed was the high grade glioma trial:

  6. SoDoWarts (original post) where did you find this information? I am afraid I misstated yesterday saying it was in CURE. I saw that on FB and the person who posted said it was in OnLine CURE. Early this morning, I looked through all of the online CURE magazines in my email, and did not find it mentioned. It is however listed in AccessWire Houston TX April 18 Edition: http://www.digitaljournal.com/pr/3737987?platform=hootsuite.
Dr.Waldemar Priebe is listed as a Medicinal Chemist with MD Anderson Houston. I did reach out to MD Anderson last night, and they immediately replied thanking me for the links and stating they would get back with me today. I will let you know when they do. I do not follow nasdaq, but on the link in the blogs, many folks are debating its worth on nasdaq (that means NOT a thing to me!) On FB, I saw several people wonder if they supported the crowd funding, would they have first chance at the drug. I brought that to MD A's attention. Stephen, I saw a drug "WP1066" associated with this Dr. Priebe. Have you heard of it before?

    1. I have heard of WP1066. It's a STAT3 inhibitor currently in trials.

  7. Thank you, Matjaz! I will share it with MD Anderson, as I told them I could not find it there! Thanks!

  8. There is nothing current and no where do I find side effects. First trial was 10 yrs ago. They shouldn’t promote a drug without all the details ou there. Side effects of all the pharma I’ve read about are absolutely horrible.
