Working between Doctors

I'm looking for experiences and advice on going to a Primary Dr. rather than my NO for RX. My NO has been serving as my primary but isn't in a position to write off label RX. I'm wanting to get Metformin. Has anyone had luck getting an RX written by another Dr. other than your NO?

  1. Hi Danny, My son, Chance, did not have a primary doc (PCP), when we were devising his cocktail, so I ordered the meds we needed on-line (kiwidrug.com for Celebrex and Metformin, http://www.pharma-dca.com/store/index.php for DCA). He since developed a blood clot, so ended up with a PCP and a Hematologist. All (even the NO) said the cocktail was fine, but we have dropped the Celebrex since he will be taking Lovenox long-term for the blood clot. Sadly, it doesn't work in the same way as Celebrex, so we have lost (at least for now) that element of our cocktail. All is said to say that our PCP will be prescribing Metformin when we need a refill. Here is what we tell them: We designed a cocktail because we could not sit and wait for recurrence. We will not lie to you. We will tell you everything we are doing. But in return we need your support in understanding what we are doing and provide support as needed." At every appointment with a new doctor, we've expected the worst and have been surprised with the best. I hear the story all the time, "Our doc will not work with us." And to that I say, "Find another doc." Granted, we have the luxury of being in the San Francisco Bay Area, so we have lots of choices BUT this is the biggest fight of our lives, so we deserve to build the strongest team. We cannot battle brain cancer and the medical establishment! (And PS, I think the fact Chance was already taking Metformin when we asked for it made it easier for the doc than just asking for it to start with.)

    2. I didn't have any problem with kiwi. Have you asked your primary doc? I would tell him/her that you plan to take Metformin, give them reasons why with medical references and ask for cooperation because you have reservations about ordering online ( as we all would). If s/he understands others are including this in a cocktail, it may help.

  2. America is the worst place to get a doctor prescribe any drugs. Everybody is suing everybody for everything here and doctors are to afraid to prescribe drugs here. It seems to be a bit easier to get a doctor to prescribe drugs in Canada or other countries.

  3. Anyone in the greater Houston area find a Dr. willing to work with the combo approach?
