Can we do anything with 1-octanol

There is something like 1-octanol and supposedly in combination with temozolomide it had some positive results on mice but I don't know how would you deliver it. Maybe sniffing.
Here is some article about it.

  1. 1-octanol is not a drug, but a chemical used in the manufacture of perfumes and flavorings (see wikipedia).

It has been tested in a clinical trial for essential tremor, and was found to be safe at doses up to 64 mg/kg. The most common side effect was "dysgeusia" or alterations in the sense of taste, in 38% of patients ("with varying descriptions
of bitter, acidic, sweet, or metallic flavors").

In the mouse study, 1-octanol was given via intraperitoneal injection to nude mice bearing intracranial glioma xenografts. 1-octanol significantly extended mouse survival when given alone (though no mice survived), and when combined with TMZ, it also significantly extended survival compared with untreated controls as well as TMZ alone, and some of the mice survived past 150 days (while all control mice were dead by about day 60).

Since this is not a drug, we don't know much about how it might interact with other agents, though it seems to be safe as a single agent.
