Storing DCA

Mike,
Have you seen any reports on how best to store DCA, if storing for a year or more?  Do you know if it's okay to freeze?

  1. Another Mike sent me this page:

    http://puredca.com/questions/how-long-can-dca-be-stored-in-what-conditions/

"Research on thermically accelerated decomposition of DCA created for oral use showed that half-life in 4°C is a period of about 5 years. It drops to 156 days if the temperature rises to 25°C. The stability of DCA was also watched for a year. It was kept in 4°C. It proved to be stable for the whole year and therefore 1 year is presently the recommended time of storage.

You should keep DCA tightly sealed in the original bottle and store it in the freezer. DCA absorbs water extremely fast and open air exposure in humid environments should be minimized."

The information posted above is what I have although I was unaware of the 156 days @ 25C. Some recommend keeping DCA in the freezer, but if the 5 year shelf life at 4C is accurate, it would seem a mute point, keep it in the refrigerator or the freezer.

    1. I purchased some for my friend last summer, but she may not use it for awhile. I'm going to tell her to put it in the freezer. "Half-life" implies half of it is decomposed after 5 years at that temperature. I agree it seems like it would make little difference if you're using it up within a year, but I don't know how long we'll be storing this.

  3. Mike,
Did you change your dcs supplier? Are you using pharma-dca? What do you think which source is best?

Somewhere on the cancer compass site I wrote up my assessment and experience with DCA suppliers. But the short version was there are two sources I felt reasonably good about, pharma-dca and certified DCA. Short of having their products independently tested, there is really no way to know the quality of the products, but my communication with both groups, and the experience of others, led me to this decision. We have been using pharma-dca. My experience with pharma-dca has been good. One time we received a bottle where the DCA was clumped together far more than a prior bottle. They said it was fine, but sent me another bottle without charge, without me even asking. They seem very customer friendly. Hopefully thier DCA is as good as their customer service.

  5. The DCA storage question got me thinking about how pharam-dca stores their DCA after production. I had noticed the manufacturer date on a bottle we purchased was about 4-5 months, prior to us receiving it. So I asked, and their response was "All our product is stored in cool dark conditions in a temperature of 4 – 5 C to ensure maximum shelf life and freshness."

    Just an FYI.
