The last comment to be posted before the recent comments disappared from the sidebar was some spam selling cannabis oil. I know this as all comments get sent to my email as well. Possible correlation between spammers and comments disappearing from the sidebar?
I think I've figured out why the recent comments periodically disappear from the sidebar - it seems to happen after anonymous comments are left. So I encourage people not to leave Anonymous comments, but click on one of the other options in "Reply/Comment as" under the comments box, including the "Name/URL" option (you can leave the URL blank).
Good sleuthing!! I do not have any IT knowledge (and I do not mean to create more work for you) but I wonder if anyone knows if the Anonymous profile option could just be deleted or blocked off/inactivated?
