Hello All,
Does anyone have good knowledge on D-Dimer and its importance? I understand that there can sometimes be false positives on results, but if a D-Dimer reading came back super high should the patient go in for a scan right away for clots? The range is .20-.45, my Uncle's just came back at 2.25. Any advice appreciated.
Thank You ~
I can't answer the question, but it does seem to me something that his doctor would (should) have an opinion on.
ReplyDeleteOne would think, but no. They just upload the labs to the portal and pretty much have zero comments on them - ever. We actually requested this test ourselves at our Nutritionist's request, it's not a standard marker that Oncologist's watch, but she's not available, so I'm looking around at other resources to try to find out the answer as to whether this is considered "high", in the scheme of things.
ReplyDeleteUntil you get some further info, it would seem like adding an aspirin at night would be prudent. You might want to Google Nattokinase or look into it on WebMD as well. Good luck.
ReplyDeleteI would say it all depends on the patient: D-dimer increases with age and can go up for lots of reasons (such as cancer) but if the blood test was taken to screen for a clot, then a high reading would mean yes: do a scan of the likely place of a clot (e.g. legs) if not, then why was the test done?
