Melatonin for cerebral edema? Opinions?

My brother has a cerebral edema that is difficult to control. I'm trying to find some herbs supplements. What is your opinion on this?

  1. This is very interesting, Lucy. My husband is also on melatonin, 7mg every night (up from 3.5mg), and has to deal with edema. He recently added 1mg of dexamethasone, a small amount, I know, but he does not do well on steroids. We were thinking that because of the steroid, this round of temozolomide was much, much easier on him. Now I have to wonder if it were not just the steroid but also the increase in melatonin?

I will also pass on something that we did during the last, really tough protocol, when the edema was so bad, it looked like he was going to have to go back on a full dose of steroids: he raised the head of the bed he slept in with a couple of cinder blocks and put a cool pack under his pillowcase to cool down his head. The radiologist poo-poo'd both measures, saying we were wasting our time, but in fact, his symptoms almost went away after doing them! They are sort of old-fashioned measures but why not give them a try?
