I got lost with the maitake d fraction issue. I bought it from amazon. Is the product below ok or is everybody getting something else? If you are getting the product below then how are you dosing it? Is it 6 tablets per day?

The controversy around Mushroom Wisdom Maitake D-fraction products mostly had to do with their confusing label, and how much D-fraction is actually contained in one capsule.
ReplyDeleteThis is the information given about your product:
"Ingredients
Maitake Mushroom Powder 600 mg†
Maitake PD-Fraction® Standardized to contain 30% proteoglucan; D-fraction 240 mg†
Vitamin C 120 mg (200% of daily value)
†Daily Value not established.
Amount per Daily Serving:
Daily Serving: 6 tablets
Servings per Container: 20"
This makes it sound like there's 240 mg of D-fraction in a serving, or 40 mg per capsule.
However, Mike received the following correspondence from the company:
"As you stated, the daily serving (6 tablets) does in fact include 600mg of Maitake mushroom powder, 240mg of Maitake Mushroom Standardized Extract PD-fraction (30% active proteoglucan), as well as 120mg of Vitamin C as active ingredients. However, the 30% refers to the active proteoglucan amount contained in the PD-fraction (240mg) only. This means that in 6 tablets (daily serving), the amount of pure D-fraction is calculated by taking 30% of 240mg, or 72mg. The 600mg of Maitake mushroom powder and 240mg of PD-fraction (30% active proteoglucan) are 2 separate ingredients."
This clearly explains that there is 240mg of PD fraction in a serving, which is 30% D-fraction. Therefore 72 mg of D-fraction in a serving, or 12 mg in one capsule.
Early clinical studies with D-fraction used 100mg D-fraction plus several grams of maitake powder. To get 100mg of D-fraction from the Mushroom Wisdom profressional strength product would require 8 capsules (100/12), and this would also give you 800mg of maitake mushroom powder.
Ben Williams once told me that he was told by an immunologist that the immune response from a single dose of PSK lasts for 3 days. If this is true, and if the same is true of Maitake, one could save a considerable amount of money by taking a full dose of D-fraction (100 mg or 8 capsules of the Pro strength product) once every 3 days. Anyone else have thoughts on this?
