What about no mutant idh1?

There seems to be quite abit of information out there for tumors that are idh1 positive.
However is there any options if a Tumor was idh1 negative and also I read on Stephen webpage that nearly all tumors that are idh1 positive are mgmt methylated aswell dose this mean that if a Tumor is idh1 negative that the mgmt would be unmethylated?
Many thanks
Dayle

  1. We actually have far more scientific information about IDH1 "wild type" or non-mutant gliomas, as most GBMs are non-mutated for IDH1. There has been a spike of research on IDH1-mutant gliomas in the past 5 or so years as this mutation was discovered in gliomas in 2008.

An IDH1 non-mutant tumor does not mean the tumor is MGMT unmethylated. About 30-40% of GBMs are MGMT methylated, though only a small percentage have the IDH1 mutation. There are certainly many cases of IDH1 non-mutant, MGMT methylated GBM.

  2. Thanks for the reply Stephen as always mate.
I read that on your website that VIRTUALLY ALL IDH1 MUTANT GLIOMAS ARE MGMT METHYLATED
So I was just wondering if it was the same the other way around.

  3. According to Greg's neuro-onc, it is the mutated IDH1 that one needs for long term survival besides MGMT methylation and that's what Ben Williams had. Has there been any long-term survivors with an non-mutant IDH1 with a methylated MGMT?

    1. Neither Cheryl Broyles nor Rich Gerber had mutant IDH1 detected (don't believe it was tested in Rich's case).
