DCA dosing

What are the dosing for DCA for most with GBM?  How are the doses dispersed throughout the day? When using the powder form is the powder put into capsules? Is the DCA taken with food or on empty stomach?  Any advice on this drug use will be appreciated.  I understand about the PN.  My son's GBM is extremely aggressive with very poor prognosis.  Thanks for your input.

  1. Most people get the dca from pharma-dca.com. They sell both powder and pills. My brother was taking about 20mg/kg per day in 3 batches for a few months but recently after adding disulfiram he started having hand tremors. So maybe the dose was to big ,maybe the dose of vit b1 was to low or maybe he should be taking benfontiamine instead I don't know. He was taking it with metforming and omeprazole.

  2. See the Drug Dosing page (button at top of page below the blog title) for info on DCA dosing. A dose that doesn't tend to lead to neuropathy in clinical trials is 6.25 mg/kg twice daily. So for a 80kg adult, that would be 500 mg twice daily. Some people start higher than that but risk peripheral neuropathy in that case. DCA dosing is tricky as some people are fast and others are slow metabolizers. It's hard to predict this without genetic testing.

In the trial at the University of Alberta, starting dose was 12.5 mg/kg twice daily (or 1000 mg twice daily for an 80 kg male). This was continued for a month, and increased after that if tolerated well. This trial found no neuropathy at dose of 6.25 mg/kg.

I believe that some people just dissolve the powder in a small amount of water, and drink.
