CBD

hello everybody,

I read that many of you have cannabis oil in your cocktail.

Is CBD without THC also effective? dont quite understand the posts I read about it..
My dad takes CBD drops.
Thanks
kind regards,
Lycka

  1. Dear Lycka, We were told that you really need CBD AND THC, we're using a 1-1 ratio of a sublingual spray, 5 times a day. My husband's neuro-onc recommended that we contact a former UCLA colleague Dr. Allan Frankel (http://www.greenbridgemed.com/) if we were interested in pursuing cannabis as an option. He helped us with dosage and getting the right mix. I hope this helps. Good luck to you and your dad. ~Antoinette

  2. The study that Kendall was referring to is this one:

    http://www.nature.com/cddis/journal/v6/n1/full/cddis2014566a.html

Mice with implanted GBMs were injected with CBD, which initially slowed tumor growth, but by day 29 the tumors had resumed rapid growth. The study goes on to show that therapeutic effects of CBD were dependent on reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, and that tumors adapted to this by upregulating antioxidant response genes.

I wouldn't say that CBD alone is bad, since the CBD-treated mice still ended up living longer than the untreated mice. I think any effective therapy is going to stimulate a counter-response that will make the initially effective therapy less effective as time goes on. The study tried to use sulfasalazine to limit the antioxidant response mechanism, but the poor solubility of that drug limited their ability to administer to the mice.

Whether combining THC with CBD would overcome this problem is hard to say - the only in vivo study I've seen giving both, injected THC+CBD directly into the tumor, and says little about what would happen when taken orally.

Still, there are clinics out there (like Aunt Zelda's) that have advised many cancer patients with the use of medical cannabis, and these clinics do recommend combining THC + CBD together.

Until this sort of data is published though, we can only speculate on what is the best way to take cannabinoids and in which combinations and ratios.

Is your dad using a pure CBD oil, or is it high-CBD, low-THC?

Since cannabinoids can induce myeloid-derived suppressor cells (immune-suppressors), I would try to counter this possible effect by taking PSK, sildenafil, and other immune boosters.

  6. The translation of her comment that I found online:

It all happened in March 2014, when I had my first grand mal epileptic seizure. It happened when I was in 25th week of pregnancy. MRI showed 4,5 x 4 x 4 cm sized brain tumor. Because of the pregnancy they did my MRI without contrast, so they couldn’t determine what kind of tumor it was. Epileptic seizures continued, so they put me on antiepileptic drugs. I had my second grand mal seizure in May 2014. Because of the danger for my baby, I had to give premature birth in 33th week of pregnancy. At first they suspected low grade glioma, so I underwent surgery in July 2014. After sub total resection, the pathology report showed that I had glioblastoma. They immediately scheduled me for 60 Gy radiation and chemotherapy. I started with my first cycle of chemotherapy and radiation. My health started to deteriorate and because they told me chemotherapy would only add few more months to live I started looking for other options and stopped chemo/radiation.
    - As far as I understand, she started some kind of alternative therapy and used high doses of cannabis oil every day. –
Months were going by, but I was feeling better and better. When I had another MRI with contrast in January 2015, it was clean. Because my doctor knew I stopped chemo and radiation he told me to “keep doing, whatever I was doing”. All my MRIs were clean ever since.

  7. Anyway, her story was in few of the newspapers here in my country. Unfortunately I don't know anything else at the moment. I scheduled an appointment with her consultant for alternative treatment (I guess that includes cannabis oil also), so I will try to get in touch with her. If/when I get more details I will let you know.

  8. Very interesting, thanks Matjaz!
If she is a younger woman of child-bearing age the tumor could very possibly be IDH1-mutant.

There is another case in the US of a young woman diagnosed with inoperable low grade astrocytoma, who refused radiation and chemo and is instead doing high-dose cannabis oil. She is now 3 years out from diagnosis and seems to be doing well but she rarely goes for MRIs so it's hard to know for sure what is happening with the tumor.

  9. Hello guys,

I found out that they were using rectal administration of the cannabis oil/pills.
I have an appointment with this person in the beggining of November.

Anybody has any information regarding this?

  10. Hello!

I finally had a meeting with this very nice lady. She told me that she was using rectal administration of cannabis oil (the "pills" look something like this : http://www.unitedpatientsgroup.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/bigstock-Two-plastic-packs-of-supposito-49911323.jpg )

She took them 3 times per day. CBD and THC ratio in these pills was 1:1, and one pill had 0,3g of cannabis oil in it...so she took 1g of cannabis oil per day (which is the same as taking approx. 26 rice grains of cannabis oil orally.

    1. Were you able to glean many more details? Was it definitely GBM? How extensive was surgical resection? Did she confirm she did not undergo chemotherapy or radiation? Is she on a cocktail of other drugs or just the cannabis? Sorry for all the questions, it just sounds like a very remarkable case, if it's true.

    2. Subtotal resection, pathology showed GBM. She didn't know about IDH or any other mutation whatsoever, but i am 90% sure they don't check this in my country. I read she completed 1 out of 5 cycles of chemoradiation and then stopped, started oil. I know it sounds remarkable, I am just reporting what she told me and what I read from newspapers (she was in a few + on TV news)

If you have more questions I can try to get in touch with her again, let me know.

    3. Usually chemoradiation goes for six weeks. Does this mean she finished one week? Or did she finish 6 weeks chemoradiation and one follow up cycle up monthly TMZ? Maybe you don't know this but that would be good to know.

  11. I am wondering though if it is just wasting cannabies this way? I would think that what would matter is how much of it is reaching the brain. I might be wrong though.
