Cimetidine and Chloroquine Phosphate:
Cimetidine increases the half life of Chloroquine Phosphate so the amount of Chloroquine Phosphate should be reduced.  But I don't know the numbers.  Does anyone have this information?  In others words because my son is taking 400 mg cimetidine 2x daily and 250 mg Chloroquine Phosphate daily, he is getting too much Chloroquine.  Any information would be appreciated.  Thanks!

  1. See more details on this interaction on the Drug Interactions page:

400mg of cimetidine can reduce the clearance rate of chloroquine to half, and increase the Cmax of chloroquine by ~30%.

Is that going to cause a problem? Maybe or maybe not. Rich took these same doses of cimetidine and chloroquine for months. Personally I would just be aware of the potential side-effects and reduce the dose if necessary.
